I recommend that DPC do a funny April Fool's prank in 2010 on April 1. That would be a joy!

one year, Langdon programmed it to add a 1 to every picture every hour.

i don't remember the rest, but there is a select group that gets mad every year. kinda gives the impression that photographers don't have a sense of humour.

Wasn't there also a user that decided to vote every single picture a 1 then as his penance went back and voted properly AND commented? *They may have also put DNMC in the comments on every image too. I forget).

I consider myself to have a fair (if not great) sense of humour but I didnít found the prank particularly funny. Maybe it was because I received the email on April 2nd, maybe it was because I checked the email still half-asleep on my way to the shower, maybe it was because I was already pretty mad at my lousy score. But then I suddenly became very happy because my crap score and image would be history :)

Anyway ITíS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, and if you think about it there is no much room for a highly imaginative prank in a site like DPC. It was the possible prank. And even though I didnít find it funny on my first reaction, Iím glad Langdon and the SC had the fairplay and sense of humour to play a trick on us.

Yes I remember that. They also lowered everyones score by about a point and a half one year (maybe they were adding one's to do it) and They have been the only one's to successfully prank me for the last two years.

Anyone who was offended by this harmless prank needs their head examined.

Anyone who was not offended but "lost sleep" because they really thought their entry was a DQ and was out of the running for a virtual ribbon needs their head examined also.

I recommend that DPCers lighten up and stop assuming that every vote, comment or site activity that doesn't go exactly their way is an evil conspiracy 365 days a year. That would be a joy!

If this is the worst thing that has and ever will happen to you, consider yourself to have an extremely wonderful life.

For the rest of us, it isn't even a blip on the radar... And, IMNSHO it was funny.

To Judi, here in the "land up over", we consider April fools day to last till midnight.

Our rhyme is a bit different also, for those who prank late.

"April Fool is past,
And you're the biggest fool at last."

Just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you. I know for a fact that my entry was hit by a series of 8's to 10's followed by an onslaught of 1's bringing me from 6.9 down to 4.0 in a couple hours, others reported the same. It wasn't a usual voting pattern imho. But hey, what the hell do the members know, we are all a bunch of whining idiots.

I was fooled by ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' posthumous's blog of a blind artist, by another fb friend who said she was moving back to Mexico, and by a bunch of Somali women who said 'Peter, Peter, Khadra fell down the stairs and she can't walk!' - Needless to say when I got there, Khadra couldn't keep a straight face, but I'd sprung straight into action after about a half second of wondering what these loony women are raving about - because you have to (me being in a position of responsibility there and then). Hook, line and sinker on that one. Needless to say, I promised not to respond if any of them actually did fall down the stairs, but I was quietly impressed.

April Fools jokes are a tradition at DPC-- I'd hate to see them go, even the lame ones. The furor this year was nothing compared to the year of the 1's.

Mine was 'dq'd' for adding artwork... riiiigghhhttttt... :)

eta: even if the joke isn't funny, the threads are!

It's possible that some voters reprised last year's "Free Study DNMC" prank by handing out low votes yesterday. At least that's more likely than inappropriate "team voting" in a challenge that has nothing to do with any of the teams. If so, they'd probably go back later and bump the votes or be eliminated by the rollover script. If not, they're just streakers in a tournament. Not worth stressing out.

Oh, I didn't mean to give support for the team-voting idea. Just something "strange" being afoot.

No problem! Just asking the administration and SC to spend as much time on checking the friend/foe algorithms as they do on implementing/promoting/defending innocuous pranks. There's more than "just streakers" at work in the challenges.

Yes, I received a "quasi-apology" email this morning, too! But, it's now unclear whether it's truthful and sincere, or something else. When an organization's management and supervisors play tricks on their customers, it's hard to tell when they've reverted back to credibility. It's really too bad. All the goodwill and esprit de corps generated by the great 1000th challenge has been reversed and trashed. Guess they couldn't stand the prosperity.

Well, as much as I pretty much never agree with ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' hahn23, I'm with him all the way on this issue.

I discovered this e-mail first thing this morning:

"We regret to inform you that your submission to the Free Study 2009-03 challenge ("XXXXXXXX") has been disqualified for the following reason:

You may not hold more than one DPChallenge account.

Your entry has been reviewed by the Site Council and/or Administrators, who have confirmed that your submission must be disqualified.

Thank you for your continued participation in DPChallenge, and please do not let this deter you from submitting photographs for future challenges!"

I knew it was in error, but I also take NOT cheating very seriously, and I really didn't know what to do to verify that I hadn't in fact done what was claimed.

I was already pretty unhappy with a shitty score on a decent image that had dropped a full point with everyone else's infantile idea of funny......and now as well as having to get everything done in my morning routine, get to work early 'cause we're swamped, I have to figure out what went wrong that somehow I supposedly have a ghost account. Thisd wasn't a simple case of something worng with my image that wasn't done.....it was pretty much calling me a cheater.

Oh yeah! What a f*ckin' SCREAM!!!!

As an aside I was disappointed when I saw the apology. My image is getting rocked in the voting right now and if I don't think I can self-DQ. Which brings up another point: If there are indeed shenanigans going on and people request a self-dq would it still follow the normal rules? (This is one reason we shouldn't have any more April Fools surprises...people often react strangely to them).

Yeah......if the shenanigans are going to be de rigeur, then can we self DQ with no penalty?

Or just be allowed to withdraw our entry if we don't feel like being part of a giant third grade activity?

What if we don't feel like being forced to play?

Jokes, like truth, hurt sometimes. The incessant whingeing of those who wish to draw attention to themselves and their supposed suffering at the hands of either truth or humour, is a source of constant, chronic agony.

You can prattle on all you want about people taking things too seriously and/or having no sense of humor, but as long as there were pranks performed that did catch people off guard of dubious humor, there will be justifiable upset.

Your denigration of people being put off by it isn't particularly charitable or helpful.

Maybe this isn't a site based on humor and infantile pranks, but photography contests.

Yeah.....right up there with the T-Shirts that say things like:

"Your little princess is my little whore"

And:

"Kill 'em all and let God sort it out"

All in good fun right?

REAL funny stuff, eh?

Yeah, really!

That's what an administrative e-mail from DPC is all about, right?

Not to be taken seriously if they accuse you of having a ghost account.

I'm just an asshole for getting upset that they called me a cheater, right?

So instead of the daily vigil and continuous voting checks, you rather have only two or three of us thinking of voting irregularities for an hour, and then devote just the half day or so we've expended on hand-holding to enforcement? Interesting plan. It'd save time anyway...
