I don't do a lot of portraiture, though I'd like to. I was recently asked to take a few headshots for an emerging actress. This shot was one of her selections from the sitting. I'd like to get a few comments on the editing. I need a color and a black and white version. My biggest fear is going too far with the editing, misrepresenting the actress. I think these are pretty close, but I'd love to get a few opinions.

Here's the original after raw processing:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814164.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814164.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

And the edits:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814165.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814165.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814166.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814166.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome!

Hey there. Congrats on the job. While I don't think your processing goes too far, it looks fine to me, especially the b&w... I'd like to offer some advice (if I may). Acting (and modeling) headshots need to show personality, need to stand out from the zillion other headshots of the zillion other actor-wanna-be types out there. While your straight head & shoulders on while head shot is probably great for a corporate directory, I'm afraid its just not going to impress many agents. Google actor headshots and look at the variety out there. They should show personality. They should stand out in some way. They should say something about who the person is and what she is able to do for them.... or they just get pitched.

I know this isn't the question you asked... but I felt compelled to help. Please invite this lovely lady back and try some different angles, try some expressions, try some environmental backgrounds... if she wants to work, and competition is really tough out there, she will need to show off!

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Cindi! We already have plans to do another sitting. This was something of a first for me, so I know there's a lot of room to grow. The edited shot wasn't my favorite from the shoot, but one that she requested.

Here's a few other shots from the same day as the previous shot (minimal editing):
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814181.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814181.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814182.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814182.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814183.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814183.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814184.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814184.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814185.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814185.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814186.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814186.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814187.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814187.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814188.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/33552/120/814188.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

There are definately flaws in each of them, but at least there was some variety. As always, comments welcome.

And thanks ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) .
