I am in search for two items as given below:

1. I need a CF card reader with memory. This should be able to backup from CF card without computer. I don't want to take my notebook on a holiday trip & wish to backup my CF card without need of PC.

2. I need a shoulder bag which can hold My DSLR & 2-3 lenses with some filters, polarize r, batteries etc. So Far I like kata DC-445. Any further suggestions are welcomed.

Kindly suggest the appropriate products. Thanking in advance.

1- Wolverine Flashpac 100gb. I took mine all around the world and it performed perfectly. It doesn't have a screen to view files and pretty much consists of a 100gn HD, card slots and a button that says 'copy' on it. That's all it does.

2- what size are your lenses? I have a Lowepro Nova (discontinued) that held a 40d with 17-40L attached, an 85mm 1.8 in one side and whatever else in the next. I have recently played with the internal lining and I can now have a 5d2 with 24-70L attached and carry a 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8, with a 580EXII in the front pocket, and in the top pocket I can fit spare batteries and a cybersync trigger/receiver.

Thanks Tez. Unfortunately I am unable to locate a supplier who can ship the Flashpac to India.
Currently I am having only 3 lenses which are Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS,Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS & Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM.

I am having a backpack(can carry laptop) & shoulder bag of local make. But I don't feel the backpack comfortable for shooting. I searched many sling bags, shoulder bag which can carry laptop & easy access to camera like Kata 3in1,lowepro 350W but I think it's better to have a shoulder bag without laptop & a portable storage.

i use a Tenba Shootout medium for when I'm carrying all my stuff as it holds 2 bodies, 6 lenses, a flash, my 16" laptop and a tripod on the front. It weighs a ton, but it's all together.

I found my Wolverine thing on ebay, actually before I went to India :)

My vote still goes with the lowepro nova series for the camera and lenses. It's small enough to not be noticed but big enough to hold important stuff safely.

Not sure about a CF card reader/storage single unit, but as far as camera bags go, I will once again voice my support for the products of //www.thinktankphoto.com. I'm not sure if they ship to India though. I have the Urban Disguise 50 and I love it.

Another option is an Epson viewer. They come in 40gb, 80gb and I think now 160gb. Built in card reader for all types of cards. It has a 3.8" screen. Doubles as a device to show off your portfolio as you can run a slideshow, with music on it. Maybe a bit more that what you need but for me, having the screen makes me a little more comfortable verifying that the images are actually on the hard drive.

There are similar devices to the Epson as well though I don't have the names off hand.

Thanks for the replies!

The epson viewer is nice but looks too costly to me. I searched enough but still didn't get source to get flashpack to India. So now I am considering to take my Laptop with my self with the Lowepro fastpack 350. I also like the slingshot 350AW but looks costly considerably. May like to receive comment on this.

I've got the Slingshot 100, and I really like it. Having said that, putting that much gear into a sling style pack might get kinda brutal on your shoulder. I've also heard the zippers on the bigger slingshots are sorta suspect. Here's a thread about that.
I myself have considered the Fastpac as well, and again, I'm wondering if the quality of the straps matches the amount of stuff that it's built to carry. I admittedly have not seen the Tamrac in person like I have the others.
What do you think of the Kata 466 or 467? Not sure how big your laptop is, but it will accommodate up to 15.4"
The biggest consideration to me is all that weight, and how comfortable it is going to be. Yes, you'll sacrifice some ease of pulling the camera out, but it's still do-able without taking the pack completely off.

Thanks friends!
I have laptop 15.4". Since I am considering this bag for travel purpose I have to compromise for weight with necessary required tools. I have seen Kata 466/467 but I don't think they have much capability to carry the lens/accessories & flexibility of getting the camera as good as with mentioned bags.

Fastpack : I like both shoulder strap,water bottle provision,compact than slingshot 350 & price
Slingshot: I like quality, rain cover provision.
Aero 85: Looks more compact to me(except height),attractive look

I am still comparing them & your views & comments are welcomed :)

I take it none of the ThinkTank bags appealed to you?
02/03/2010 11:03:45 AM · #13
or the Tenba bags?

Well 2 days before I have placed order for Fastpack 350. It's without AW raincover but giving the bag as priority for travel purpose I have found upper compartment useful for other devices & accessories. I also like it as a backpack than single strap slingshot. 350AW notebook compartment sizes were too strict for my dell 15.4" 1545 laptop raising some doubts on compatibility.

Hope everything goes well with the final decision. I will let you know about this.

I'm glad I looked at this thread. I didn't realize there was such a thing as a cf card reader with memory. Now I have to look into it, as well!

Go wild, get a dual cardslot camera and have it write a copy to the other card. :)
