Hey all!!

I have a 40D about 2 yrs now, finally bit the bullet & toook cam into local shop for sensor cleaning, big bunnies rather tenacious wouldn't come off when I cleaned it...now I am being told it looks like mildew or oil spots behind the glass???

I am the only one I know of who has been in there, and did not "spray" oil over the sensor... thought? We are going to send off to Canon at the end of the month. I cannot imagine how much a "replacement" will cost?

I sure would appreciate your input!!

Many thanks

You have my sympathy , I hope everything turns out ok and not expensive.

Just to add - I thought the 40D had it's own built in sensor cleaning setup?

I believe I recall hearing of excess oil from the mirror mechanisms getting flung onto sensors. If I recall correctly, there may be a Canon program to take care of that cheaply or free.

I found a reference to this problem with the EOS-1D on Canon's support site. This info could be of help in getting them to take care of the same issue on your 40D. Service Notice: EOS-1D Mark III/EOS-1Ds Mark III: Oil Spots on LPF Surface

Better an oil spot than a whole new mirror assembly....(explatives abound). ;)
Hope all turns out well.
