Date Uploaded: Feb 24, 2012

In the beginning of February, the Black Sea in Constanta was prety much white. The day the photo was taken was rather warm (around 5 degrees C), however, the days before the temperatures dropped to minus 20 degrees C. What you see is the water was covered by a thick layer of ice having the consistency of iced smoothie.

Ah, this one is so remarkable, we need some notes here. I would love to know some more about this phenomenon.

Wow! This has me wondering if this is a gradual process where the ice builds up over time, and each successive wave adds another layer until it is like this, or perhaps I am misunderstanding how much of this wave is actually "frozen" into the shape we see here. Regardless, this is fascinating.

... and what are the shadowy "markings" in the sky at the top right, I can't figure that out?

An amazing capture. I have never seen anything like it. This makes me want to go visit just to be able to photograph it and see it with my own eyes!

I love the simplicity of the picture. The only critique I have is that I wish the background as a little blurred or there was more fog or something (not that you can control the fog, lol). The industrial machines (as I am assuming those are what they are) are a bit distracting. Other than that... it's wonderful!
