Thanks to everyone that took the time to vote and comment on my entry. I really appreciate them.

I'm always reluctant to enter a self portrait. This one I didn't mind probably because the shot always brings back very nice memories of this trip. The shot was taken in Copenhagen while we stopped for a quick lunch break. The lighting in this restaurant was fantastic, semi dark with bright noon day sun shining in.

While the shot is somewhat posed, I actually did have quite a bit on my mind and it shows on my face. But that's a story for another time I guess.

Here are some alternates that I pondered entering. Some of these are from the same trip.

Made me think of a portrait of an artist, actually.
And a very good portrait.

One of my 10s - reasons why I like this:

Bold, straight up, no nonsense. A shared moment, but not one we would necessarily want to share. We are intruding.

Superbly made.

Looks like he's eaten the road map! Wonderful setting and subject.

The deep darks really help the viewer focus in on the important parts of the scene.

He looks like he's off in his own world. Nice black and white. Good lighting. Well done

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

I do wonder if he is sitting alone or are we the other active party in this composition who is sitting with him at the table. He is distracted from the task of eating and if we are indeed the other person at the table we have finished our portion of the dinner while our friend still has yet to eat his half. His mind is indeed elsewhere with the faraway look in his eyes. He is distracted and is/has not finished his food. This makes me wonder what has so captured his attention or imagination that he has lost focus. Nicely captured.

this would be a superb candid shot...I'm not getting the connection to the art side of this...I know it has to just be me...

Portrait of absence.
I find the consumed part of the pizza facing the viewer rather than him a bit enigmatic :)

Reminds me of Lev... (although I want a bit off the top)

I like this... wonderfully done.
