What is this California Gull doing in the mountains where it's snowing - must be some good food to keep it around the area. Very pretty.

The eye color and eye ring and the red and black on the bill make this a California Gull. They do look similar to herring or ring-billed, but the field marks differentiate.

I've never seen this species. Looks similar to the ring-billed. Lovely feather detail.

Cold, yes! The water is fresh snow melt. And, those are snow flakes being blown by the wind. I think it was 28 degrees F. at the time of this image capture.
