 Hairy Woodpecker, Picoides villosus
Interior West subspecies. Similar marking to Downy, but much larger and longer, larger bill.

Very nice shot - I had these also over the winter along with the Downy but neither are coming to the feeders anymore.

Nice shot of this Hairy Woodpecker. We get them here but the Downy are much more common.

Thanks for all your comments. I'm sort of like those guys in The Big Year. Obsessed with the birding. And, I love it. I do have an advantage because I live so close to Rocky Mountain National Park. And, I do serve as one of the official BIrd Walk Leaders for the park-sponsored ranger activities. Not a ranger, just a volunteer local birding expert. LOL!!!! Anyway, I think others will give me a run for number of species. Hope DirtDiver catches up with updating the forum thread. I'm sure he will as his time permits.
