Probably not going to do much beyond average for DPC, but my head would explode if I entered the butterfly and flower pic. It would probably rate higher with the collective, though.

Too bad for the flower lovers, because this one has more personal meaning to me. I drove support on this day and photographed the ride. This was a killer hill 15 miles into the 55 mile route. Not an easy hill, but the downhill on the other side was awesome. I rode Saturday and Sunday and tackled some similarly steep hills. I'm pleased to say I didn't walk up any of them.

Post-challenge notes:
Stayed over a 6 for much of the challenge then was taken down in the last hour by a couple of low votes. No comments, though, so I guess I really didn't hit a nerve with anyone, and I got the score purely on technicals. A shame it failed to connect with any of the other cyclists on DPC, because the shot does have a lot of personal meaning for me. I guess you had to be there...

Very nice Steve, great sence of effort and I like the soft processing.

Great use of the winding road, adds quite a bit to this. I also think the facial expression is great, and it's a good usage of the lens for this type of shot. The only thing that I'd note is that it doesn't LOOK that steep. Now, I'm not saying it isn't, but super-wide lenses can really make things look flat when they aren't. That section between the two curves, where the recumbent is, for instance, appears flat or near flat due to perspective. I've struggled with showing angle of steepness in lots of my mountain biking shots- it's really quite frustrating, since I know that it doesn't transfer the experience to those who aren't there, but in my mind I'm thinking of what the hill actually is like.

I gave this an "8". I thought it really captured the exertion (and pain) of the sport and is a lovely landscape in its own right. Well done!

This other cyclist didn't get a chance to vote the free study this month, or you would have received a very positive comment and score! Your cycling photography has really excelled of late, particularly coverage of the hill country ride. Beautiful use of the s-curve here, and great expression from your subject. Nicely done - and a tiny violin is always a good thing. :-)
