 Taken at the Paint Mines in Calhan, CO. The paint mines are interesting and very colorful rock formations and really more suited to color than B&W but being the was an AA challenge it seemed like a decent fit. The weather really did not cooperate, the day was overcast and very flat light but you work with what you get some times. PS was done primarily in CS6, the BW was initially done with a BW layer then taken into NIK to boost structure. I also added gradient at an angle to the sky and to the bottom of the image to bring more focus to the rocks and to help give some interest to the sky.

Love the rugged rock faces and the horizontal interest of the strata. The sky is nice but not exceptional. A good entry imo -- 8 - voted earlier

Dramatic rock formation. Super clarity and very nice detail in the rocks. The sky is foreboding, which adds mood. A few details lost in the darkest shadows, but I think the image looks very natural. The dynamic range of the scene is somewhat constrained by the lack of light on this day. I really like the postprocessing here.
