Challenge: Framing (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A80
Location: Sunnyvale,California
Date: Aug 31, 2004
Aperture: 3.2

The frame is formed by an ikea lamp which also acts as the light source. The bottom edge of the frame is a black desk. I positioned the lamp to form three sides of a square(fourth side being the desk) and asked a friend to get behind the formed frame.

sharpened and adjusted saturation.

Subtle. Framed by darkness. Bumping to 7

A little dark, IMO. I see the framing aspect of the wall border, but it's quite hard to see.

very nice face lighting - a bit of detail fill-in flash on the other half would have helped though

Is the shadow that frame the face? I'd like to see a more explicit frame for this challenge!

I like the idea behind this photo, but I wonder if it is a bit too dark and mysterious to be tranquility. Also, the frame seems to be in the background. I like the lighting on the subjects face.

Framed by his own desk lamp? Clever. I really like this lighting too

Your title is my Usernam so i feel entitled to comment. At first I did not see that there was a frame, and it is still not clear to me the purpose of the frame in the image. The lighting on your model's face is very good, but the rest of the image is lost in underexposure so the frame does not show. The white spot on the right of the image is distracting also. Without the challenge in mind. A good portrait with the focus right on and good short lighting. Good job on that.

Great photo!! I loved the lighting!
but the frame is in your background, instead of the foreground... :(
