Abstract for me is when the elements of composition are the subject, rather than whateveritis the camera captured.

Wow! The detail is incredible on this abstract. I'm seeing some sort of building in the rain, but the internals of the building look like computer chips. Then, just as you think you've seen it all, a bar code in the sky. Wild.
