This is a cracking shot! Instantly eye catching but with enough depth to keep me interested for a while. Shame DPC voters only have 30 seconds to vote...

Technically, this looks fairly immaculate. I definitely think that it needs the full DOF that you have achieved to give the background detail. Nice and sharp, etc.

The real strength though is in the artistry. Really nice perspective, perfect use of the rule of thirds and an outstanding black and white conversion. This would only have worked so well from this side too - with the traffic driving away. Very emotive.

Why didn't it score? I guess the voters didn't see the fit to the challenge. That's all I can guess at. It may feel like a kick in the nuts but I wouldn't care if I were you - this is a keeper.

Happy hunting,

Frank.

Thanks Frank. I appreciate the critique, one of the few I've had that had no negative points and that's why I value honest critique. Thanks also for taking the time out of your day to do it.

Thanks Mark,

In the end what I was trying to convey is that advertising, with its ultimate goal of garnering attention to what is, most often, a money-making enterprise, is rarely used for this purpose.

Bvy, whose comment I appreciate greatly, was most accurate in saying that it's an excellent piece of Americana. I don't know about excellent, but I certainly intended to share the message that America is not in a great place at the moment, and there is a lot of "sad advertising" going on, as small, family-run businesses like this continue to suffer.

I didn't expect the image to do well, but I'm glad it was appreciated by those that understood the message. Perhaps I just wasn't blunt enough.

All the same, thanks to those of you that enjoyed my image.

Personally I like this photo, but I cant see the "Unusual use for an everday object". I give it an average score for now, but I will come back and look at it again later to maybe try and figure this out!

I love this image! I do wish it fit the challenge, so it would score as it should. It's lovely.
