Hot afternoon in Cambridge Botaical Gardens after smelling (and viewing) the Titan Arum. The reflections of Sun through reeds in a pond. Dropped a small stone to make tiny splash although still surface was very serene as well. Apart from curves no adjustments.

looks more like a reflection than backlighting.

Maybe it's the muddy colors, possibly the uncomfortable feeling one gets looking at the sun in the water, but I am not drawn to this image. It IS good that it catches the ripples and that there appears to be some depth to the water, but it needs something more to make it attractive - maybe brighter green tones, possibly more detail in the reflected leaves, even less specular highllights. Because of the reflection rather than light from behind, it's also questionable whether it meets the critera of "backlighting". Good luck with other raters, though.

I don't find this very interesting. Maybe you should have taken a shot of the reeds/leaves with the sun behind, but still include the pond reflection.

The glare from the sun or flash really takes away from the backlit effect. The ripples don't help either.
