Sorry to all of you who are bored with pet photography :-).
This is my Lollie and it's her 6th Birthday portrait.
I like the pic, it really shows her personality.
I am learning to shoot in RAW, or should that be I am starting to shoot in RAW and am learning what to do with it :-)
I am also trying to focus on lighting and I think that worked in this image.
I do hope you like it. Lollie would be most upset if she scored low, she is not used to loosing ....

thanks for the comments.
Yes, it probably wasn't the right challenge to enter this picture in. However, I am actually learning my photography, and thought this came out really nice. Sometimes I think we must do what is right in our heart, and it IS a "free"-study :-).
As to "just" a dog, she definitely isn't :-) ... first of she is a bitch ... actually a "B"itch :-) and we are on our way to the Agility World Champs at the end of September - so yes, she IS very special :-) and this was her birthday portrait.

kasaba I hope this is yours...
Firstly I think the BG is really nice and it makes the dog's head the real focus of the shot. Simple BG's are good so well done on this.
Composition is nice with the eyes and mouth / tongue relatively close to the eye pleasing rule of thirds.
The slight look to the left (from the viwers point of view) is probably the thing that might lose some of the connection for some voters. If the dog was looking straight at the voter then it might have done slightly better. Also the fact that the left eye is a bit obscure dby some hair also stops some of that connection with the viewer.
DOF is nice with the nose to the eyes in focus. The eyes might have been able to be a bit sharper and it looks like the focus drops off very soon after the eyes judging by the hair around the head in the region of the ears. Perhaps a slightly smaller aperture would have helped?
Lighting - I can see it was not an on camera flash - the highlights are not directly in line with the closest reflective parts of the dog (eyes and shiny nose).
Overall a pretty good job. Perhaps a slight bit more detail in the darker shadows of the face would have helped but not a bad shot at all! |

Is not mere dog. Is fearsome predator and defender of tribe of Grog. Dog stands guard over females and younglings when Grog and other males away on hunt. Youngest female child of Grog give name "Cuddles" to viscous dog. (Grog lets male youngling name animals from now on.) |
