They really went for the pretty colors in this challenge didn't they. I love this picture. I did one that was very similar for the Grain challenge. [thumb]//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=248482[/thumb] I just love the light, shadow, and lines you get in stairwells. |

I was about to vote on yours but I was out of time. I was going through some photos in a last minute rush and yours came up at 8:58pm. Not enough time to properly study and vote on your entry.
I really liked your photo from a subject and compositional standpoint but from the aspect of the challenge requirements, I didn't think it fit very well. My first gut reaction was 5 but the more I looked at it I probably would have given a 6 or 7 just because it was simple and conveyed a simple message about not being on vacation (my interpretation).
And now that I've read the photographer's comments, I see what you were trying to convey: heaven/hell. was I correct? Still, a great photo in my book.

I like the composition, but don't want to go there! |

It could be an artifcat of distortion, but the stairs sem to tilt to the right. Ok image, but does not fit challenge requirements as it is described. So much for "out of the box". I like the image though and really like how the top stairs fade into the light. I would have cloned out that grate over the topiary. |

It's tilted! I want to see this rotated and reframed, to correct the tilt. :) |

A lovely image with a good title. I do not particularly like burnt out areas, but in this case ir is so well balanced with the darkness on the left, giving it that artsy look. Bumping to next level, though this will be a hard sell for a travel guide. |

I love this shot - it's tones, lighting and texture are just great. It's not typical travel guide stuff which is why I find this so refreshing. I can imagine it featuring in a more select publication extolling the pros and cons of remote or unusual locations, perhaps something like a Rough Guide or even a Backpacker's Bible, etc.
One of my top picks - but I'm just slightly bugged that it's skewed slightly clockwise. |

Good shooting - nice sense of progression, movement from dark to light and the POV placed absolutely central to that. I'd be pleased with it myself, but certainly wouldn't have entered it to this challenge in the expectation of scoring very well at all. High 4's for this in the end? it's simply too easy for people to dismiss it as 'not meeting the challenge' I fear. My one criticism would be that I'm not convinced about the orientation of it. |

I really do like this - i do so love stairs! unfortunately the wonkiness of the shot is very distracting, and could easily be fixed with a moderate amount of rotation. also, a bit of light in the lower left flight might have lessened the oppressive blackness in this portion. i like the almost-sepia tones and the graininess though, and the "unknown" light at the top works very well. 6. |

I want tickets to a known destination. And, if I had to guess, this is an apartment complex in some suburb. |

Somehow I feel that this is getting a beating for being outside the box. But hey, I like it (8)... |

I think that this is an interesting composition, but it does not seem to be a photo that I would find myself seeing in a magazine. Besides that, the light coming from the top of the stairs looks a little bit blown out. |

The shot is crooked and too fuzzy. The lighting at the top of the stairs is too harsh. |

A very good shot but doesn't really fit the challange imo. |

The tree appears totally random for no apparent reason. I think I would've gone a few steps closer so the bottom of the last stair was at the bottom of the frame. I like the juxtaposition of the stairs leading up to the brightness and the other set going into darkness. Image could also be rotated CCW 1° |

This is a great photo although probably not the best choice for the travel guides theme. :) 9 |
