Taken on a beatiful day while visiting my mother. we went on the lake for a walk. It hasn't snowed much so the ice was like a giant skating ring. We crossed a man ice-fishing and he let my daughter have a try. She was so excited. I took many shots that day. This was my favorite.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

I am going to enjoy critiquing this photo because I gave it a 10 during the challenge. It's simply a great shot. I have read through your comments and I sorely disagree with those who wanted to see fill flash on this shot. I LOVE the way the backlighting has silhouetted your subject. Sure... the lens flare is an object for debate, but i don't really think it detracts anything from this image. This is called Iris Flare or Lens Flare in technical terms. As you can see, the shape of it is hexagonal. This is the same shape as your aperture opening :)

One modification i would enjoy seeing on this photo would be to crop off the left third of the image to create more of a vertical shot, keeping the sun in the frame. I don't think that the bucket and fishing gear that is in view on the left side of the frame is really adding anything to your image... maybe cropping that out would be an enhancement. Hold up a piece of paper in front of this image and split the sun down the middle... that makes a pretty neat image too :)

Great shot and keep up the good work!

It's a pretty photo, but I would prefer less flaring on the sun. Did you catch anything?

A cool picture with the warmth from the sun.

Very nice colors and mood.

I love this type of photo. But in this one the sun is just too bright to suit me. It makes me squint and look away from what actually is a good photo. I find myself wanting to look at the ice, fishing poles, etc. but can't. Because of that I can't really give it more than a 5. PTL

The sun might not be the best choice for the focus of a picture. The rest is nice, though.

Great shot. Focus and lighting are outstanding. I think that I would have tried a fill flash on this one. It's possible that you may have gotten the fisherman's face. Or on the other hand, it may have ruined a great shot. 9 waltoml.

Excellent photo! Perhaps a little too much lens glare but overall it is well balanced and the shadows created from the sun are well placed.

excellent shot of setting sun...really looks cold and well composed.

I think fill flash could have made this shot a REAL contender!
