Check it out full size.
I deviated from the original in several ways, and I'm not sure which I prefer. Totally impromptu shoot, my buddy Dave came over, and asked if I'd take a shot of his costume, I replaced his plastic knife with something much more dangerous, and managed to talk him into a full-blown studio shoot.
Four speedlights on wireless radio triggers - one 43" shoot through, to the left of image and above, one 33" shoot through to left set to very low power for fill and highlights in the eyes, one snooted speedlight for some harsh cross light, set to right and on lowish power, plus a gelled speedlight for the background (original was blue instead of red, and I think I might like it better, but this was more Dexter and more Halloween)..
Editing is completely legal under Advanced rules. I did use a bit of portrait pro on this to adjust skin and face as well. |

Wish this would have done better. Love Dexter and thought the shot was great. My only complaint is Dave's right hand up. Feels too staged and not conservative like Dexter's actions. Good stuff though Cory. |

I don't think very many people watch Dexter on here, because this should've been in the top 10... they didn't understand it |

Not familiar with the show/character, but the costume/get-up, pose, and backdrop is spot on. Lighting and details are extrodinary - though the reflections on the blade are rather hypnotic. Not sure how one would avoid that on such a reflective surface - perhaps a less reflective knife. As costumes go it is not as distinctive or iconic (like say vampires, ghosts or Sherlock Holmes) but one should never argue with a guy with a knife:-) |

You look like a crazed Ryan Seacrest.
Cool shot I like the wavy lines in the knife. |

good lighting - next step - back light!
if he had popped out more, and his right hand was not so dark, this would be a winner! |
