If you have never seen a cranberry bog, you might enjoy these pics taken during the cranberry harvest this fall. The bog is only flooded for harvesting and also sometimes in the winter to protect the bushes during a very hard freeze. To harvest they first flood the bogs which are always located near a pond or lake like the one in the background here so a large volume of water is available, then they carefully rake over the bushes to shake the berries loose, then collect them up, or as I think of it "corral them" ~ see these 4 pics, then use a device rather like a large vacuum to suck them out and load them into crates. Hope you enjoy this background information.

A few cranberry bogs are *dry* harvested instead. Takes more time, yields a better product. More likely to be sold for use as berries rather than juice.

When they are not being harvested the bogs are rather dull looking and you might not even realize what they are, as the berries are not hard to see.
