Nice portraite and expression on the subject. The lighting is nice but maybe a little backlighting would be great. Nice work! 8

Slightly flat, as portraits go. Good pose and emotion, though. Averages a 6 from me.

I might have turned the tops of the shells outward, unless the pattern turned out to be too busy.

The shot is very compelling as a portrait. Most times people worry about the technicality of teh exposure, composition and lighting at the expense of capturing the emotion and essence of the subject. You have not achieved perfet exposure, overexposed imo, but the portrait works because of the captures essence and expression. you had the patience and direction to make it happen.

Very nice portrait study. Excellent details and lighting is also very nice but maybe a bit bright on her forehead. Would like to see a bit more contrast. 7

Nice portrait. She could look a little bit more to the center. She's got beautiful eyes. She could also took a different pose, or you could use sightly different angle - without the hand visible. I would like also to see it in sepia - she has romantic look, which looks great in sepia.

What captivating eyes and very well captured. I love her expression as well - a true portraint rather than a snapshot. B&W well handled.

I really like the conventional composition of this. The lighting is great! I can't find a flaw here. 9

A really good portrait here! I like your choise of B&W, adds some nice character to it. Good DOF, and the whole shot isn't too sharp (which is a good thing!) 8

Beautiful but melancholy portrait. very nicely lit/exposed. would have liked to see a little more contrast between she and her background, and maybe a little dodging of the highlights in her eyes. it makes me sad to look at, which means you've captured something very well.

Love the soft focus but sharp eyes. Well done in black and white as well. I would increase contrast a little bit more to make the black areas really black and to make white areas whiter and the rest of the tones will fall in between. Nevertheless a great emotive capture. 7

Very nice natural portrait, good confident expression. It looks just a little bit too soft, could do with some sharpening in the face in my opinion.

Very nice portrait, the light on the right of her face is a bit too bright for my taste, we lose all the details of her complexion. Beautifully posed. I think I may have flipped this horizontally... I'm not sure I like her facing to the left in this shot. I think a closer crop may have been more effective... there seems too much negative space in the frame, especially above her. The skin tones in the shadow areas are perfect. Very effective dof, but I would have liked her right eye as sharp as the left eye. 7

I really like Rachel's direct look toward the camera. I feel that the photo could have had more depth - a wider contrast between the darkest black and the whitest white.

Good portrait. I like how you used the DOF just deep enough to keep both eyes in focus.

Just a little blown out on her right side of her face, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of commenters telling you that. :) I love the B&W processing here. Great contrast and textures. Perfect focus, the eyes are alive and intense.

Beautiful. I think I would like to see this with just a little more contrast, but that's just me. Great pose, perfect look, and you have captured the eyes VERY well. A great portrait. I really like the wispy hair strands coming down around her face. Well done.

A nicely softened simply posed and straight forward portrait and a very pretty young lady.

Nice subdued and naturally lit portrait of this very pretty young lady with good focus and catchlight on the eyes. Light appears just slightly too strong as you've lost some detail in the forehead and cheeks. Low contrast gives a nice quiet feel. 7

This is a nice portrait. The shallow DoF works well here. I think a pale sepia would really improve it over B&W, to make it seem just a bit warmer. 6

This is a very strong image which displays a strong will character. yes, there is sweetness and there is charm but the gaze is ever so steady and the mouth adds to the conviction of the eyes. In this pose I would have prefered the whole thumb showing rather than bent at the first joint. The tones are very friendly and pleasing and the loose falling hair adds a candid touch. The feeling that this is a remarkable young lady has been very well conveyed. Outside of the minor point of the thumb joint, my most critical note is in the focusing. The right eye, and the eyes are so impotant is not in focus. here you have one sharp catchlight versus a spreading one. Here dof was critical. In portrait, the eyes trump because we try to lock eyes with the subject. My current evaluation is a 6 on the strength of the character study.

I would have liked to have seen a little more depth of focus on her face. The nose and lips are just a little out of focus, and my eyes keep getting drawn to them because of it, instead of staying on the eyes. Wonderfully composited however, and such a gorgeous little girl.
