Would you believe I almost trashed this. After taking dozens of shots and getting fed up with the lack of equipment to produce the proper composition, I decided to quite trying this idea. But before I erased all the shots I downloaded the images to take one last look before erasing my CF card. As I thought, most of the pictures weren’t what I expected, then I noticed this one, and I thought that it might have some potential.

Well, after treating it with “Neat Image” and then adjusted the “Levels”, this image just blossomed (pardon the pun). It started to look really, really good, well at least to me it did. In fact this is probably the best photo of this kind that I have ever produced. I’m just hoping it places in the top 25%

By the way, this carnation was filmed on my living room mirrored table using my built in flash set at –0.6. I was not expecting to see everything go black except for the Subtle Reflection of the flower.

I like the strong rich colours and the composition. The lighting has been handled well also.

Keeping the uniform black background while getting the proper lighting and reflection could be difficult in this shot, but you did it well. The black rectangles (two to the lower-left of the flower and one in the lower-right corner of the image) were a bit distracting, though.

A bit too centered and looks slightly overprocessed. I would leave some negative space on the right side of the frame and maybe a bit more at the top.

light angle is to head on... looks like an on the camera flash almost.. and that makes it look too snapshotish

i'd probably like it more if it wasn't so centered. all the same, i'm sure it will do well

This is a nice shot, I really like the light. On my monitor I can see rectangular patches where you have done some spot editing, as well as a dark strip going straight across the top of the image. Unfortunately that takes away from the overall impact of the photo.

NIce sharpness in the center of the flower but the edges are a little soft. I personally would like to see more DOF in a shot like this. Also, your reflection is a little dark. My recomendation (based on MY taste) would be more light and a smaller aperature.
