Photographer’s Notes
Christmas Eve day, my wife, kids and I went snowshoeing in the Hyak area of the North Cascade Mountains. Weather was warm, around 35 degrees F, partly sunny, calm – in short, a perfect winter day for a romp in the woods.

We didn’t go far – several miles with a thousand foot vertical gain. We weren’t out long – several hours at midday. But we had a lovely family outing.

This was taken from a small bridge, looking northwest. For me it captures the peaceful feeling of the day and the season.

Rest assured, hijinks ensued during other parts of the trip … like when my wife fell through the snow into a shallow stream … like when my son-in-law did a face plant while trying to run in deep snow in his snowshoes … like when we met a couple with their poodle shaved to exhibit a Mohawk haircut.

Great fun!

Being from CT, you'd know snow! This is an interesting question of foreground/background. To my eye, it's not so much a picture of snow, as it's a picture of woods and stream. But thanks for the comment. Good comments always shake up my thinking as did yours.

So lovely. When the snow caps the rocks it creates a magical feel.
