the lighting seems to be super fluorescent. usually a bit of backlighting with a white bounce is good on glass shots like this.
It's also crooked, I would have rotated the image to level it. The weird glare from the background is very distracting.
Why did you choose this particular color of background? A white background could have reduced the glare more and made the shot a little more elegant.
What's intriguing about this shot is that it appears to be a different hard liquor than champagne, leads to an image of a grizzled old guy celebrating on his own. It doesn't tell much of a story.
A cool trick is, if you boil water first and let it cool a bit, then put it into an icecube tray (not plastic that would melt)
your ice will turn out crystal clear instead of cloudy like this. Can look better for shots focused on it.

A good way to ring in the year.
Photographically speaking, this is pretty flat. The use of paper for a background that is close to your subject makes for the subject and background having no real separation. |
