Challenge: My Left Foot (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-50D
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Date: Jan 15, 2013
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200
Date Uploaded: Jan 15, 2013

I had a number of ideas for this, two of which I tried. This was by far the better shot. Took a bit of planning to get some bread, and the ingredients that would make a good looking sub on my size 13 US (48 European) feet. But the local store has french loaves of bread just the right size for only a few dollars.

Setup for this included a white sheet under a piece of glass as the surface. The background was a grey piece of foam (significant!).

Then I had to light it. I put a constant light to the left of the subject, and a flash with a softbox to the right. Behind the scene was a flash with a yellow gel (originally the background was white, but that was boring). The grey foam is important to bring out the yellow. I started with a white background, and that reflected the color too much.

Editing was just some tweaks in Aperture and Topaz Detail 3.

Wow, so happy with my first ever 4th place!

As noted, my foot is indeed a gross sight :). My skin is so thick I can walk across sharp stone driveways with ease. All of my toes are very crooked. And my toenail on my big toe still hasn't fully grown in since losing it last summer after stubbing it.

I didn't want to make all the viewers lose their lunch...so I just stick with the least offensive part, the toes. Haha!

Thank you for all of the great votes and comments.

You may or may not be aware that this is one of the photos being used in the online "publications" referenced here: DPC forum thread on LBNelert
I noticed it when I was searching for my own. There were so many from DPC that I could not document them all - if you want to have it removed, see posts from LydiaToo and Mike_311 on p. 5 of the forum thread. To locate it more easily, check both blogs and the main newsletter, starting with the dates when this challenge was in voting or shortly thereafter.

I think - a couple of the feet from this challenge were there.

I loved that you saw the toe prints (as opposed to fingerprints?) on the second toe. The texture was great! 8 from me. :)
