Post-shot editing done in Photoshop CS:
Adjusted brightness and contrast and cropped.

This is a very simple shot. I set up a candle in front of a black sheet that I hung off the wall and had the camera on a tripod. Had lights coming from over my left shoulder and half strength light backlighting the candle from the opposite direction.

I then lit the candle, blue it out and began shooting. I repeated this quite a few times while creating air movement with my hand.

returning for comments...

Very well cropped to maintain maximum interest. Bumping up.

I think I would have rated this higher, but the smoke appears so indistinct and out of focus. Was it blowing away from the camera? Wish the bottom edges of the smoke were not cropped out. The candle is so distinct and clear that it tends to detract from the swirling images of smoke. Just my thoughts. Good luck with the challenge.

try cropping the candle out of the shot...and make the focus on the smoke itself, next time. Right now, the focus is on the candle.
