Rainy weekend, and the only shooting was at home. Shot through the open front door. Aloha is a hard subject because she's afraid of the lighting gear, so I have to find ways to shoot her with available light.

It's those eyes and the way they look at you that makes dogs so special. They show their affection in a way you can't resist and I think you captured that look beautifully in this image. With the perfect focus on the eyes and the shallow DOF you even emphasized that feeling of friendship and affection even more. Great image!

Great focus on the eyes! I like the effect of the shallow DoF giving the face that extra long look. There is definitely a lot of character in that face. You did well with the lighting too.

Its the eyes if nothing else. That's what it needs most.

Love the eye contact you've captured. (It was something I could never get with Bailey. The moment I brought the camera out she would always look away and never at the camera. It was almost like she thought a photo would steal a part of her spirit.)

I enjoy reading about the studies that inform us of the many feelings we don't normally give dogs credit for. It has changed how I look at photos of our darling companions. Yes, the technical aspects of this shot are amazing, especially given the constraints you had to shoot under. But on to what I consider more important.
The expression in Aloha's eyes are endearing - what adds to it is the way she is holding her ears - slightly puzzled and the color of her 'eyebrows' make them appear to be risen up as if questioning what it is you are doing. Her droopy lips lack any energy so I think she is slightly peeved with you .. her overall expression is sad - anthropomorphism is one of my failings :) It also makes me a complete push-over for the four legged friends who rule my home. I just want to give her a lovely crispy bone.

Some dogs can be tough, even without lighting gear. You certainly nailed focus on the eyes.

The shallow DOF seems to work well for this shot. I normally like to see the nose in focus too, but the perfect focus on the eyes more than makes up for it. Beautiful light.

Gorgeous, the blonde dogs have so much in tones to offer. Love her grey mask.

She's very pretty and the focus on her eyes is perfect. I love the natural light.
