This series may get long-winded if they are all as interesting as this one is.
On Bryant Street, after that BB&B study of a week or so ago, I did catch a glimpse of this 'turret' that seemed a candidate for my Oddities. I also had a glimpse of the rather interesting structure to which it belonged. The picture I grabbed then was not adequate, so I went back today on a nice quiet Sunday to try again. And found a parking spot! In the midst of very industrial and chaotic Bryant Street was the gem pictured here.

You must understand that this section of Bryant Street is very near the Hall of Justice with its many competing signs & store fronts for Bail Bond emporiums and the like.
Some links that give something of the history of 772 Bryant are here and here. It and its neighbor contain, of all things, photography studios.

Another nice and odd bit of architecture. With those lights I wonder what it looks like lit up at night.

The decorator touch of lavender paint for the window trim is an unexpected treat. You're getting some very nice light, & the lens you are using seems perfect for the task. The images are so clear & sharp without looking like you had to do any work to get them so. I admire the task you have set yourself, as I once had a similar ambition when I lived in Albuquerque. It's such a unique city I thought getting some comps that could only be taken in that city would be easy. All I got was touristy schmaltz of adobe, etc & gave up almost immediately. Anyway, I am enjoying this very much!

I think what I find most curious about this picture is the lights pointed at the turret. It's like they are accusing it of something, and the turret looks sort of contrite. I like how clear the detail on the walls is.

The full building is quite a find - with confounding scale of oversized brick colored siding.

That's the problem with commenting late - all the good remarks have already been made. But as per your usual Alice, you always get great detail in your buildings (or streetlights) Glad to see you are having nicer weather than we are here in the mountains .. skies are still mostly gray but I just think of the song from the musical Annie - tomorrow, tomorrow, the sun etc.

You now have me looking around my own neighborhood. It's amazing how many really odd buildings there are everywhere. In my neighborhood, it's mostly really unfortunate remodels, but you seem to be finding just as many that were originally designed that way. You could do an entire series just on the tops of buildings.

edit: deleted rant about Michael Graves selling himself out....

I can see the military look in the section you have chosen to focus on, but it does fit nicely with the entire structure. Thanks for including that shot. I like clean, simple things so I like this.

Yes, it looks like the turret of a prison to me, without the guards and guns. I guess the lights would be pointed the other way though. Another nice find!

Without your description this looks like a military structure to me, a turret on a lookout. With barbed wire along the edges. Grey and dull as it should be. With searchlights ready to turn and capture the enemy.

It is amazing the "strange" and "different" structures you can find when you really start looking. it makes you wonder what people were thinking when they build things where they do...

You are finding some very interesting oddities. Look forward to see what you will come up with next.

Very interesting would like to see more of it. Can imagine some princess sitting there surveying the chaos below.

Interesting crop of an interesting building :) Probably an interesting room inside (or is it a skylight of sorts?)
