I love these birds and their call! We don't have them often in Newfoundland but I came to quickly learn their sound in Ottawa. |

I too think of these as a sign that spring is here. They seem to be the first of the migrating species to show up as the days grow longer. They also seem to be among the first to leave as the summer winds down. |

Looks like he is having a feast. I always have a hard time iding the female because they look so different from the male. |

My father (a farmer) always used to say that Red-Winged Blackbirds were really the first sign of spring. I've always found it hard to get good feather detail on blackbirds - nice catch. |

Very nice male RWBB. Exceptionally good detail in the orange-red lesser coverts: pale yellowish median coverts. |
