Thankyou all for your comments and constructive criticisms,
I agree that the glassware is distracting.
I took a few shots with only the finger and candle, but this one had the best smoke and angle.
I just ran out of time. After about 30 goes without burning
myself I didn’t want to push my luck.
I found myself starting to hold my finger there beyond the 1 second threshold in the interests of getting the right shot. It is easy to put a wet finger in the tip of a flame and not get burned.
I was dipping my finger in water between shots and did not burn myself at all, the blackness is only the burning wax hitting water.
The concern over whether I burned myself shows me
that I achieved the desired effect of the viewer feeling the subject.
So I was happy with my first DPchallenge entry on that score :-) |

So take your finger out of the flame. It does burn - just looking at it. The mirror may be too much - makes it rather busy. |

How long did that take to heal...or is it still hurting? |

A few too many distracting elements in here. The finger and the flame could of been better placed. The blackened finger tip with smoke coming off of it is a bit disturbing too, but that's just me. |

The glassware in the photo does not make sense with the finger and candle. |

i think the composition of this picture doesn't really draw the eye to anything in particular. it also seems that some of the things are there just to be there, but don't really add anything to the image. it seems a little dark and dull. since it's a color photo, maybe some color in the bottles or something would have helped. also, maybe a change in lighting could help bring focus to something. |
