Challenge: Touch (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: Lounge at home...
Date: Sep 20, 2004
Aperture: F/2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/250th
Galleries: Family, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Sep 21, 2004

Shot using manual settings and a nikon SB-24 bounced off a bit of card. Aiming for a shallow DOF, but with the G5 it's not as shallow as I'd have liked, and this is a basic editing challene so selective blur is out.

Post editing was crop, scale, desaturate, USM, subtle border. Hmmm, a border. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

A lump of black fabric was meant to cover all but our Daughters feet, but she wriggled all over the place while taking this this, and this was the best shot.

Had quite a bit of fun though, and Phoebe (The daughter) got a nice bikkie as a bribe to stay still, although she wriggled, giggled and ate at the same time, so that was not so effective! :-).

Wasn't anything like I imagined it, but as I've missed a few challenges I think it's time I entered another.

Thanks for the ecomments folks...

In the printed copy I have at home I edited out Phoebe's hand, and it dosn't have a border... :-)

This is just too lovely for words. I would have draped something dark to have excluded baby's hand and lrave only the feet with the adult hands as the frame.
Bumping up.

What I really like here is the lighter shade of the baby's feet. This gives the sense of his (or her) delicate skin. I also like the way the mother is cradling the feet in her hands.

I think this might have more impact if the crop had been tighter on the hands and feet. Loosing the arm across the top. -- it's a distraction.

The composition of the hands and feet are really great. I am distracted by the childs hand and arm in the top right and wish you had been able to shoot it without the in the frame. maybe a mini black, dark back drop over the childs torso would have done.

hate the fram because it draws attension away from the subject.
try more neutral fram if you want to have it.
Good exposure and compostion.

I am distracted by what appears to be the baby's hand in the background. Otherwise, nice shot.

A simple enough topic, but you tackled it tremendously well! I like the way you did this without any distractions in the background, and the skin tones are supurb. A 10 from me!

nicely done as a black and white image. had this been an advanced editting challenge, I would have recommended removing the baby's hand in the top corner of the frame because I think the mother cradling the feet is really a strong image and doesn't need the competiton. I also think the frame border competes for my attention. It's a great image. Let it stand on its own without the extraneous elements.

I like the focus on the feet in the center of the image. It pulls you into the picture. However, I feel the beveled border pulls the eye back out of the image and causes a tension. Overall, very good photo!

Aneat grouping of the hands and feet, the hand and arm on top kinda ruin it for me.

well composed and nicely exposed, the framing dosn't add anything for me but thats only a minor thing - good luck

I'm sure I'm not the first to say something along these lines, but I find the hand in the background distracting. Aside from that though, this is a wonderfully tender image. I'm not sure about the opaque border, I find it distracting as well. Probably because the hands holding the feet are so strong emotionally and visually, the border and extra arm only take away from the impact. Nice.

great picture/detail but the frame really took away from the image for me

This one would be my favorite except for the arm visible in the background. Still very nice job. Excellent focus.

Although I didin't reduce your score, I find the border slightly distracting.

Such a sweet capture, great idea, and love those tootsies, the hand is distracting (of the baby) though.

Don't care for the border at all; also wish the baby's arm was not in the shot. I like the choice of B/W. Like the DOF, and composition (except for the arm). 7

What a sweet picture -- a nice variation from all the hands touching. And the picture is very well done to look artistic and interesting.
