Dashboard of my trusty new Jetta. I took this sitting in the driver's seat, buckled up, feet on the gas and brake - all required to turn off the warning lights. The tripod was all around me holding the camera higher with no chance to see through the viewfinder and no live view because it kept resetting the shutter speed (might read that manual after all). A/C to the max, this setup makes you sweat.
I had to wait until it got really dark to avoid the strange reflections off the protective plastic screen. This was actually shot while revving down, so that the needle stays for a split second on the high rpm and the 2 second exposure caught the trails of it going down. The other way around didn't produce the result I wanted. I tried with more rpm, but the engine takes time to wind down and it didn't fit the exposure. Could be done with different settings but I ran out of time.
To Cory's question - don't tell anyone but I tried that. Imagine the setup I described, while driving. Dangerous stuff, even around my quiet neighborhood. Anyway, it didn't work for many reasons. I couldn't fix well the tripod over me and I don't know if any IS would compensate the shake - it was just terrible. Also, on half of the takes the steering wheel bar was in the frame :-) forgot I had to steer! Besides... what kind of punch would I get with the speedometer on some 50km/h, 2-3K rpm and an indicator begging you to shift to third gear? Meh. This was a back yard project after all :-).
Anyway, I loved taking this. Thanks for your feedback!

Well done, Tome. Cool shot. Much better than the photo that placed behind you. |

Terrific punch in this - can't go wrong with red, white and black, I think, and the focus is excellent. Voted earlier, back to comment. |

Awesome choice. Would have been better if you had risked your life and endangered others by actually moving forward while doing this. |
