Challenge: Landscape (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G2
Location: Grand Rapids Michigan, along the Grand River
Date: Jan 8, 2003
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/250
Galleries: Landscape, Nature
Date Uploaded: Jan 8, 2003

This shot was taken at a roadside park along the Grand River. Due to an very ugly white drainage pipe, I had to crop part of the shot. I had many shots from this session, with more of a background setting but I kept coming back to this shot. I love how the river seems to be calling for trees to join it. So my score may be lower due to no crisp background...but oh well, I liked this the best.

I love this shot through the tree limbs. To me it makes the difference in it being a 6 or a 9. To me it's a 9. The colors are beautiful and the whole thing is so clear with fantastic detalis. I love the trees hanging over the water. Beautiful job.

well taken shot...The trees on the left, especially those overhanging ones balance the picture nicely...even the contrails in the sky seem to cooperate. Great colors.

Tough competition on this challenge AND it isn't the best season for landscape shots around here. I think you found a decent location but maybe not the perfect composition. I like the blue in the sky. I'm sure you know about the silly rule of thirds and I think that it would help if you had something in one of those intersections. There isn't really a focal point for me. The bank and river lines go back into the shot and the point where they converge - far down river - would be a good point to place in one of the intersections. You'd have to change your location/perspective though. Basically, you have all these nice lines created by the trees, but they are all just leading out of the frame instead of leading you TO something. I don't see any obvious technical problems though. That's good. Once you have the technical aspects down, you can focus more on the creative and compositional side of photography.

Those tress are amazing! I guess that's what erosion does. I think the composition would be better if you weren't so tight on the trees because there isn't a complete element in this photograph that I can see so I keep searching for something to look at. Colors are wonderful - the blues really stand out with the bland winter foliage amd it's wonderfully sharp and clear.
