This was actually quite difficult shot to get. I hadn't come up with any good idea for the challenge and was gonna let it go past untouched. BUT, then I remembered the dried fishheads, and drove of to a place with nice BG, but no fishheads there anymore. o-oh. Then I remembered this place, on the way to KrýsuvÃk, just out of Hafnafjörður and hurried over there, because it was already late on the last day of challenge submissions. When I got there all the fishheads were on these wooden racks, about 3-4m above me. Fortunately I had with me my monster tripod (I think it can be used to steady Scud missiles) and my remote control so I could raise the camera up to the max height and shoot with the remote. I was aiming for deep DOF and hoping for the other fishheads appearing in the BG, with low shutter speed and small apperture. Now the light started to fade a lot and it was overcast and likely to start to rain. So shutter speeds to 15-30 sec and hope. Did I mention the smell? And the yukkie fishgutter ground? No, better not. Don't try to imagine it, just take my word for it - I'm not going there again. Finally I found some fishheads that weren't too high and shot this.
I agree with many commentators that the BG is distracting, esp the big white bits.

Rolly polly fish heads.
Ugh, nice shot, though. Great dof. |

Oh, I wonder if this is by one of our Islandic friends. When I visited, I remember seeing enormous drying racks of fish and thinking "what a great idea!" Anyhow, a good idea for the Challenge. Probably would have been helpful to have the background even more blurred as it does have a tendency to distract... |

Rock & Roll man, I really dig your choice of food. DOF and composition is good but maybe a bit lower viewpoint would make the heads stick out from the rest in the background. |

Need to do something about the background in order to make your subject stand out a little more |
