this has the makings of an interesting image. i agree with brockangelo that it could benefit from a slightly different angle. as the background color is a little dull, the less of it, the better.
another thing to play with would be your dof; here, it's really short, but there is nothing in particular in the spotlight. i'm not quite sure what settings you have available on your camera, but i wouldn't recommend using macro mode unless you are shooting something specific (like a bug going across the table).
also, near the bottom right edge, there is a scratch or something. since this was a basic editing challenge, all you can do about that is crop it out (and be thankful that it was on the edge!). this is the type of thing that has bitten me, usually when i've waited too close to the deadline to really go over all the details. unfortunately, it's those little things that make the difference between receiving a 4 or 5, or having it receive 6s and 7s. (i gave this a 5.)
one thing that i have found helpful is to go back and revisit my challenge shots after the challenge, based on the comments i got. this is not always easy (or possible), but, it has helped me get a better handle on what i missed the first time.
