I just reviewed the comments made be other members...and I agree whole heartedly that this is one of the best landscapes. I have critiqued thousands of photographs over the years and your work meets all the criteria for a great picture. You put the emphasis on the tree and placing it in the left 1/3 of the picture. Had you placed it anywhere else the picture would not have worked. By keeping the amount of ground to a minimum the eye can concentrate on the tree. The simplicity of the sky does not distract the viewers eye all these things add up to a great composition and photo. Anyone can take a picture of beautiful scenery if it surrounds them, as many did. But you took a not so beautiful site and turned it into a maginificent work of art. Great job. JG

It is truly amazing the simplicity of an object in contrast to it's
suroundings. A wise man said "no matter where you go...there you are!"
Buy a real camera and get serious, will ya!!!

Great job. I love these types of photos. Seems to be missing a bit of something on the right corner. Maybe less of a panoramic crop. Nonetheless a great picture. Jacko. 9

Darn, and I just told another person in my comments that their's was my favorite so far. Now your's is my new favorite. This is so dynamic. It has everything. It is simplistic yet has wonderful texture and detail. It has great complimentary colors and contrast. Each of the elements are perfectly spaced and don't crowd any edges and you have just the right amount of blue sky. Even the shape of the clouds are subtly adding to the dynamic effect. Absolutely excellent. 10 -T

I love all the trees in this challenge! Well, most of them anyway. This one is one of my favorite tree moments :) How beautiful it is. I wish you had shown us more of what is around the tree! -8- -Annida

This would be a good picture for a calendar, greeting card, or something of the sort. I like it

A beautiful oak tree in a beautiful scene. It's interesting how the small branches on the tree are blue. Excellent composition.

I like this photo but feel it could be a little better. I like the fact that the hill drops off on the right, which give a sense of height and nothingness out that way. I think if you were a bit lower or somehow got the entire tree branches into the sky, it would be perfect. Also, I would have liked to see the bush gone and the grass green (2 things not in your control).

I like your use of an unusual shape for this. Not too sure about that white border though.

Beautiful shot, love the composition and the shadow under the tree, and the mood the colors on the ground and in the sky convey strength, which to me this tree looks worn but still strong on this hill! Good luck, 9

Strong composition, even stronger if the lower bush is not present, in my opinion. Tried looking at this in B&W, and I must say it makes a stunning black and white image, especially if you "burn in" a bit of the sky, and clone out the bush. (making it DPC illegal) Hope I gave you some things to try in your image editing program! :)

Awesome tree. I don't think you need quite as much sky on the right as you left. Really nice shot.

I was just telling my wife last week that I\'ve been looking for a really cool, solitary tree that I can photograph on the crest of a hill. This is definitely a cool tree. I like the patches of green grass, and the sky is nice. I find the bush a little distracting, but you can\'t do anything about that with the editing rules. I\'d clone it out, though, for printing or other purposes. The only other thing I would have tried would be to get a lower vantage point. I would have liked to see the base of the tree at the crest of the hill, rather than having more \'land\' behind the tree trunk. If I had access to this place, I would go back and photograph it often... lots of different skys, sunsets, sunrises, rain, snow, meteor storms, etc!! I like this a lot and I give it an 8! I hope it does well in the challenge! Good luck,
JD Anderson
One other think... I'm not sure I like the white border... actually, i'm pretty sure that I don't. You really don't have any white tones in the image to draw out with the white border. I may have gone all black, but this is a very minor detail.

It's a lovely tree and I like the photo, although I might have considered including more of the hill (depending on what it looked like. Having the tree on the left third line is very good - I might have aimed for the top third line as well. Colours, focus and border are all nice, well done.

I love the simple composition here, lovely balance. I wonder if shooting later in the day would add a bit more interest to the sky, but at the same time it was a good idea not to include a sunset!

I love solitary tree photo's. I cant seem to put my finger on whats lacking. Maybe too much empty space to the right of center, causing imbalance?or the lines draw you eyes off the page?maybe both, I'll still give it an 8

I would have liked to see a little less sky to the right and a little more land down on the lower right. Great shot. Good landscape.

I like this a lot!!! Very interesting tree, great sky - love the wispy clouds that just give it a bit of texture.
