We went for a 2 day trip to stay a a small town where we know is full of wildlife. It is bordered by a 16km beach on 1 side and a national park on the other. Early on the second day we went for a walk in the National park when we had gone only 200-250mtrs along the track we noticed some movement around this large hollow log. As it turned out it was 5 small red fox cubs playing in and around the log. There was a dead branch with lots of leaves and almost all their time was under this branch so not many good shots. This was my last shot as they all went back in the log. He stuck his head up once and I missed it. Kept a focus on the spot and well he had another look! Got ya! :)

post shot editing.
Played with Shadow/highlights
Little hue/saturation
Selected his head and sharpened a bit and lightened the shadow.
Crop / resize and unsharp mask / save 4 web

Ohh I had to report the den to Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service as they are an introduced pest. Even if they are cute.

Tough time of day for photography. Lots of blown highlight and overly contrasty items. What is that blurr at 2 oclock to the fox?

Would like to see a closer crop to make the fox more prominent. Maybe also adjust the brightness down.

That is really nice wild peace :)... broken trees and somebody scared of lot of attention.

Awwww. . . .very cute. I wish it wasn't quite so bright and contrasted. Maybe taken to middle-of-the-day. But good capture anyway!

Your subject is fairly small and is a little lost in all the clutter of the rest of the image. I understand having the environment in the shot as well to establish location but this image seems a little too much environment and very little animal. If you cant get physically closer or your lens just doesnt reach then cropping the image can also work. Using just the lower third block of the image - cropping down to the intersection of the two diagonals (hollow tree and the branches) and everything else to the right of that would isolate the cub more, still show environment, have a strong diagonal to lead the eye through the shot, be less cluttered, and depending on the size your camera shoots the image you could still get a good 640 crop and have it almost zoomed in to see the detail of the fur and such a cute face.

Oh man that little fellow is cute. A little sharper focus on the cub and this would have been perfect imo.
