I rather like the look of some types of dead foliage so always leave several plants to dry out or decay in place in the garden, giving me a choice for this challenge. The hydrangea flowers have lost their color (mainly blue in these parts with our slightly acidic sandy soil) but have still largely maintained their structure.

I went with a high key look and a fading vignette to emphasize the feel of petals gradually having less and less substance, eventually decaying into nothingness. I don't think you can see it on this shot but some petals have already deteriorated enough so that only a lace like matrix remains.

I love dried hydrangeas. And dead they are even more beautiful then when they flower (in my opinion at least) Have them in my garden myself I can't pass a day without looking at them.
Although they need to stay on when dead in order to keep them strong during winter and make them grow even better the next year, I couldn't resist cutting 2 of them to put in a vase in my office.
Great image showing their beauty Penelope.

I don't know what happened to my comment during voting (one of those DPC mysteries). This is my fav of the challenge. I think dead hydrangeas are more beautiful than fresh ones. Beautiful comp.

I adore the tones, shapes, details of dried (sounds better than "dead") hydrangea blossoms. Voted earlier; back to comment.

I wanted to like this more. Most of the image commends itself with good detail and pleasing color. I was troubled by what looks to be blown out leaves or perhaps snow around the left fringe of the plant. Still, overall I like the image.

Very pretty - hydrangeas are as lovely in death as they are in life.

This is actually more beguiling than when alive, in my opinion. The depth of focus feels perfect. Thank you for opening my eyes to this new found vision.

One of my favorites in the challenge due to the perspective.

These flowers are gorgeous whether they're dead or alive
