I was on my way back today from the Eastern Cape (South Africa) to Johannesburg where outside a town called Reddersburg I came across this road kill and decided to take out the camera.

Carnivorous night animals have a tough time surviving in its environment where there is intensive farming, not only in Africa but across the world. If it is not the farmer that gets him then it is a 12 ton truck in the middle of the evening. Life will eventually find a way, but it appears extremely unfair that these small creatures must struggle beyond for survival than ever before.

This photo can portray more than just environmental concerns, but also how life ends for animals. In this case very lonely and boisterously public. As for humans a journey for survival either to procreate or to find basic necessities will lead ultimately to its eternal death. Not necessarily forcefully public, but undeniably death. A death that might never be celebrated unless your last breath is thrown at the world to be observed in a horrific way, where the last remembrance of your being is echoed in the brain of the observer, emphasising the last light that you might have seen with a one liner being drawn in his/her final thought: I am glad it was not me.

Yes. I think that too when I see this......I am glad it was not me. Thanks for your description. I completely understand your thought processes and concerns upon seeing this type of thing. Shake it off now and go shoot some running or dancing animals!!! :-)

Oh shoot...I really was gonna say it takes guts to post this...no seriously...I think about my classmate from high school Mary who shot road kill....is this Mary??????? Geez THAT would be strange. I posted a photo of a deer carcass once for a lucky thirteen challenge.....as the eviscerated deer had 13 ribs....did NOT score well....I came across it in a row of cedars planted in a 100 acre tree nursery....kinda freaked me out....but my first reaction was to photograph it....horror/fascination.... the end of another life....
This one is not that hard to look at.....it's the one covered in maggots with bulbous swollen bulging organs that kinda get me.....high mark for courage to post this.....
