Predatory songbird - sounds like a contradiction. I didn't know there were such things. Pretty bird - I like the pattern on the chest. |

Richard, yesterday I commented on this Northern Shrike saying how I would love to see one. Well today I was out and took a picture of a bird I have never seen before. The other photographers didn't see it and when they looked at my screen they ran t see if they could find where it went...Yup a Northern Shrike! Thank you for sharing your luck with this bird!

I've always loved Shrikes; the idea of a predatory songbird resonates with me. Lovely capture, and quite the rarity. |

Beautiful image. He's looking right at you and seems entirely unconcerned... I have never seen one of these up close. I love the lacy feathers on the chest. |

Butcher bird! One of my favorites. Have only seen a northern once, and not for not trying. That was before my camera carrying days unfortunately. I'd kill to get a shot of a shrike of either variety while it's eating. |
