Bull elk on 1/23/14. Only one month until antler shed. Canon 5Dmk3, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, f/5, 1/500s, ISO 800, lens focal length 105mm. Nearly every morning at dawn, about 50 bull elk congregate as a bachelors' group in Horseshoe Park. As soon as the sun lights the valley, they move into the woods, only to emerge after the sun descends below the continental divide to the west. 1000# bull elk near Horseshoe Park on January 23, 2014. In full winter coat, this is a typical 6x6.

A portrait of a close walk-by by a gentle giant. Mutual respect in play.
