Challenge: Parts (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Lobby of the dramatic arts building at UConn
Date: Oct 4, 2004
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/3
Galleries: Macro

My idea of 'parts' is all about parts of relatively small things. I don't have any macro equipment, though, just the EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 lens that came with my Rebel GII. This used a 77mm (123mm equivalent) focal length and a tripod mount for stability, because the light was too low to hand-hold, and I hate the noise I get at high ISO.

The drama building is old and kind of decrepit, so the brick walls are full of texture, full of character. I managed to capture part of the brick, part of the sign, part of the light and part of the exit door. But it still doesn't really say 'parts' to me. But it *contains* parts. That's as close as I could get.

I used Levels (in The Gimp) to expand the dynamic range, and resized to 640 pixels wide. Aside from that, no post-processing was done.

You've met the challenge and shown a part of something. I don't find that it was done in a very compelling way, however. This composition appears random and unthought out to me. There is nothing in this composition to hold my interest in terms of subject matter. As an abstract, it fails to appeal to me, also. The lines, shape, and color don't create enough visual harmony or dynamic interest for me.
