To those asking...This is a "descanso" or roadside memorial to someone who died there. This one is on the West Mesa of Albuquerque, on the west side of the volcanoes. These descansos aren't legal but are more than tolerated in respect to the dead. They are all along the highways of New Mexico.

The real pathos here is handled a bit flippantly, but the photo is terrific. The color tone is suitably somber with regard to both the mood and the terrain. The power lines are particularly apposite, echoing the cross in shape and, analogous to snares, hinting at a host of tragedies.

That's really sad. Reminded me of my friend who died last year. This image awakens a lot of emotions.

Yes, that is definitely more bad news than good. This is a very isolated rememberance - is there a story behind this in reality as well?
