At a Civil War re-enactment, the ladies had a tea and fashion show. This young lady gave a presentation on the "Language of the Fan" explaining how young chaperoned ladies in a very civil fashion would get their message accross to the gentlemen. Touching the fan to the right cheek and resting it there was a "yes." Drawing it accross her cheek, "I love you." Open wide. . . "waite for me." Fanning slowly. . . "I am married."

In photoshop: Cropped for desired effect; auto adjusted the color; sharpened edges; sized for the web.

This is an awesome example of why catch light in a portrait is important. The eyes here are down right creepy. Nothing personal agains the model, I'm sure she is quite beautiful. the composition other wise is very nice with good seperation of model and background. I don't see how it fits the challenge except in title though...

it is an intrusting idea but i feel that the fan is not as much the subject of the shot as the face now (i of corse not speaking fan) if the fan had been spred open and say not eaven covering any part of the face, i think it would still have more of a presence as the subject in this image.

a beautiful face doesn't do a beautiful photo. The colours do not help and the cropping do not clarify de center of the photo.

Like this shot, Classy Lady! Hope others remember how women used to use fans to communicate. Not sure how many old fogies will!

That's really original. Who knows something about "fran language" those days? Great idea, I wish you worked a bit on the colours. Her face looks a bit too red. I think it would've been better if you didn't crop it so much. Anyway: 10 for an original idea, 6 for execution = 7. Good luck :)

More prominent eyespot could bring more life to the subject. Mabye a dim flash could do that here.
