I had just taken my contacts out when this shot hit me. I quickly grabbed my camera, ran out to the car and got my tripod, ran down in the basement and got the closest light source I could find, and grabbed my backpack.
After I got the setup done I didn't have to move from this very chair once. The desk is actually the return for the computer desk. I cleared it off (by wiping everything on the floor) and grabbed the four elements. I turned the monitor and every light that effected the room off, and turned my light source on. I took a total of about 30 shots, with the elements rearranged differently, with and without glasses, the light coming from various angles, etc. I finally decided on this shot, and here I am, minutes later, submitting it.
Interesting Factoid: The green book is my grandfather's college textbook from 1928. My book was published this year.
Anyways, I digress. The whole point of this shot is to have the shadows and the dim light source, as to illustrate I'm doing (or sleeping through) my homework by one small light, to simulate the early hours of the morning. I took my watch off so you couldn't see what time it actually was :-) I'm fine with the poorly visible book cover, it just adds to the picture. Though I'm sure the voters won't be.
Oh, and my knuckles, if any of you were wondering, me and my friends were down at Scioto Park (See: Old Leatherlips) when I slipped and fell, but luckily my hand holding the camera was inbetween the camera and the ground. Hey, it makes for a good battlewound. Taking pictures is rough business.

Looks like you had to rely on incandescent lighting here, which is causing the orange color cast. Perhaps a different colored shirt could have made that feel less prominent (as it probably adss color reflection of the sirt as well). Also would like focus a tad sharper. 5, just-married
