CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

COMPOSITION
The compositiof of this is very strong. The sign is located in such a way as to anchor that side of the frame, and provide a nice resting place for the eyes. The subject matter is also a good choice, as it, along with your title, adds a nice humorous effect, I think.
TECHNIQUE
I think if the sign, which is the subject of the picture, were more in focus, adn the cows were less, it would be more effective. Since it was a signs challenge, that was the first thing people would look at. Since it was just slightly out of focus, people may not have studied the rest of the shot enough to see that the cows, etc. are focused very well. the limbs in front of the sign do seem a bit distracting, but after reading your comment, I can understand why you left them. One way to have gotten that across was through the title, or if you could have found some more limbs to drape across it, it may have been more obvious.
OVERALL EFFECT
Overall, I like the application of humor and the fact that it was a sign, so it fit the challenge, but it was also interesting, because there was a story there, not just a sign. Good work, and good luck in the future challenges.

I guess no one understood my picture this week. I was trying to show the sign crapping up the nice pretty pecan grove. I got comments about the branches in front of the sign. When I was taking the photograph I started to move them out of the way but then I liked the idea even though man has put this ugly sign smack in the middle of nature, nature is growing over it. Oh well, there is always next week :) |

I felt the out-of-focus branches in front of the sign were distracting. Don't know about you but I find focus and depth-of-field with digital cameras problematic. To maximize depth-of-field try focusing about half way between the near and far objects you want in focus, lock the focus, stop down tot he highest aperture you can and then recompose and shoot the picture. |

the branch in front of the sign is distracting to me. Maybe you should have moved it prior to taking the picture |

This photo is ok but doesn't really "grab" me. Perhaps it would have been better taken further away so that the cows weren't so small compared to the sign. |

Nice photo. Definitely meets the challenge. What kind of grove is that? I wish you had gotten more of the sky in to offset the amount of grass on the bottom that really couldn't be cropped off. That would have lightened the photo up a little too. But it's still a really nice photo. Worth a 7 any day. |

Lovely lighting on the trees and cows, and nice use of foreground with the twigs adding to the rural feel of the shot. I would have loved this shot if the challenge wasn't signs and you could have had that nice row of trees with the animals and warm colors!! |

Great shot. It's hard to make this challenge work and the background content really pulls this one through! |

The branches distract and detract; also, you might have tried a closer crop on both sides, more so on the left. |
