I am pleased that this image has struck something with the viewers. The painter was standing in the doorway and talking to someone with this strong expression of sad resignation. No idea was caused it but his painting in the background seems to perpetuate that feeling of unhappiness and detachment.

You've sort of captured all of humanity here somehow. He's old. He's young. He appreciates life but knows its potential misery. His art is great but he doesn't boast - it's just what he does - like breathing and feeling. Just great.

I love the way his eyes and face position almost match the face emerging from the abstract shapes in the painting. Excellent job capturing this, with perfect exposure and light, and the slight bit of softness and grain just makes it raw and gritty and real.
