This image was lit artificially using two small flashlights (each about two inches long), one of which was placed inside a hollowed-out hole in the back of the pear on the left, and the other held overhead by hand during the exposure. Additionally, a fixed clamp lamp with reflector was set up off-camera to the right to add a third light. A ceiling light provided a fourth light source above and behind the pears.
The set-up was simple. I put a sheet of glass on my kitchen counter to let the pattern of the counter shown through. A piece of whiteboard was propped up behind the pears. I cloned out the thin line formed where the glass met the whiteboard in order to have a seamless set-up.
