I experimented. F8 with a macro lens is a big mistake, as it captures every little imperfection, every flaw, every smudge, every chip, scratch, & speck. Ugh. Revolting. My bracelets are NOT about the details.

To do the kind of product photography I see (& don't like) on the internet, I think I need to switch to the 18-70mm lens, buy or make a lightbox, buy or rent about $1000 in studio lighting, and rent a studio because I sure can't get all that in the dining room. Which I would do all that, if I was interested in selling my bracelets.

I just want some shots that are interesting.

This one uses a clear plastic xmas decor fir tree, lighted from the inside. The 'scene' is lighted from the outside as well by a 'daylight' desk lamp. Shot in ambient TV light, on the table where I make the bracelets.

Pretty bracelet. The bright bg does seem to take away from the subject.

It's interesting to me because I'm interested in most anything that refracts or bends light. The tree seems to be working pretty well for background in this one.
I would be wanting to experiment with shooting the individual beads, but know that's not what you're after with your shot.

Before I read all of your notes I was thinking back to the bottle idea and that you should try lighting from the inside, with the beads glowing and the metal in silhouette.

I think you're headed in the right direction -- "just for fun" you might try experimenting without the outside lights at all.

Sparkly is the first word that came to mind.

I actually like the background here. I think it adds to the general sparkliness. The jewelry itself is beautiful.

This is pretty, but doesn't really show off your handiwork with the bracelet. I wish I had a suggestion for you but this isn't my area of photography. Keep sharing your learning process with us, the journey is half the fun!

Too busy background for me, but the light is nice, perhaps it could a little brighter. Looking forward to see more experiments. Btw. bracelet looks good!

I like the beads, but the background is distracting. I don't mind flaws and imperfections. A macro does not show the personality of the bracelet, although having one or two macro shots would let customers see exactly what they will be getting.

Thas photogrpah has a rather contemporary feel about it, which I quite like; not necessarily what you need to show off your bracelets though....

Am still racking my brain for ideas and this fir tree has actually given me another one.... What about a simple mug-tree (do you call them that in The States?) that could be used to drape one or more bracelets HORIZONTALLY (not vertically) ie lay them over more than one branch

eg one with this sort of branch lay out. Mug Tree

Still might need the mirror arrangement that GeneralE described. I also googled 'bracelet displays' and there were a few home made ideas there...

Hpoe you enjoyed the champagne :-)

I can see why you don;'t like it but its really pretty to me, chrystals like this are always captivating no matter what the imperfections they may be.

I think using that tree brought out some of its pretty colors

yeah, not the lens for this, and the background is distracting

I like the subject, but didn't like BG that much. IMO it would have looked better with less busy background.

I like the dof of this one. Great idea to use the tree.
