Critique Club Review
I think the Black & White really works here. I think the effect of the fence would really have lost a lot had this been in color. I also like the way the fence is just a touch soft. This helps keep the attention on the subject. As for any suggestions.... I think that lighting that brought out the shadows of the fence on the girls face might have worked well. As it is the lighting is good, but it does make the area on the jaw/cheek to the right of the mouth look like they are slightly out of focus. I am not sure that this is completely a focus issue, as the hair on that side is less focused than to the left, but still within reason.
Her expression really makes this picture. A smile would have really knocked it down a notch or two.
Overall a really good picture. |

This is incredible! Her expression is so moving, and the restraint due to the fence/barrier.... Is she wanting to come out? or Is she sorry I am in? I am only left to wonder. Look how she seems to be looking back .. almost over her shoulder. She is almost indifferent to the situation.. yet needs to respond to it out of obligation. The tones are harsh, yet even providing more emotion. The clarity and focus are just as they should be, and the lighting perfect.
I am amazed with this piece. My first favorite in several weeks, and my only 10 this week. Congratulations! |

For some odd reason it reminds me of those ads on TV "adopt a child from a third world country, only a dollar a day" kinda things. I think it's the look in her eyes. Good choice on the B+W |

Nice model. Does well for a young girl. Nice photo. Looks like her nose is right against the wire. Well executed. |

Excellent choice of subject. Very creative indeed. The little girl adds interest for the 'background' as well. Lighting, composition and the slight dof is wonderful. Just a tad blown out on her left cheek, otherwise a beautiful image. I really like how you have use b&w for this image. GL :) 8 |

The emotion showing on her face really makes an impact behind the "squares'. Excellent shot, and good use of bw. |

Composition: Great
Technical: Good choice of B&W. Lightly a bit too different at left to right?
Meets challenge: Yes
Overall impression: A really nice pic. 7 |

A friend mine felt he thought this was not a terribly original shot. Perhaps it would be good for the cliche challenge, but I really love it. This is really good job of capturing the emotion of the moment. Great looking kid!. |

I knew the fence theme would come up in the square competition, and this one is executed quite well. It is an effective portraiture: The subject seems to have an expression befitting someone who seems caged. My only gripe is that the contrast could have been improved with your image editor. A look at the histogram of the photo would show this. Would have also been nice if both her eyes were sharp. |
