When this challenge first came up, I whined a bit internally as the grass here is all brown and gross. Then something magical happened. It rained. Then it got warm. Then the grass started to come alive!

So what to do with this new green grass other than pick up dog poop?

I could find a brick path and take a photo of the edge. That is ok, but not great.

I could take a photo of my girls enjoying grass for the first time. Well...they hated it. A photo of screaming 1 year olds isn't all that fun.

Ah ha! I can setup a shot where I am measuring grass and cutting it. Brilliant! It's cliche but fun, exactly what I want from a lawn challenge.

So I setup my camera, and grabbed some scissors/tape measure. I cut all around where the camera focus area would be with the scissors and started shooting. I found that the scissors I was user were too big, and didn't give the effect I wanted. So I grabbed some medical scissors from the first air kit. Much better! Then I found I had to do two main things to get the shot look better:
1) twist the tape measure just a bit so the sun didn't shine on the numbers
2) tilt the scissors a bit so that viewers can see both blades instead of a horizontal view

Then I came in an edited. Some tweaks in Aperture, and some Topaz Clarity for some subtle yet effective color and contrast.

Very nicely done!! My husband would tell the story that his grandma actually would go out and cut grass with a scissors. :)

Excellent finish and very well done - cliche or not. I must have my head in the sand - I thought it was clever :) Congratulations on the HM, Mike
